MySpace meeting is linked to rape
By Kim Ring TELEGRAM & GAZETTE STAFF
EAST BROOKFIELD — A Spencer man whose posting on Facebook
says he "had the best night in an extremely long time" is facing
statutory rape charges relating to an alleged incident that happened
that same Dec. 26-27 evening.
Anthony F. Sundquist, 20, of 12 Sunberg Road, Spencer was arraigned
in Western Worcester District Court in East Brookfield yesterday
on charges of statutory rape and intimidation of a witness after
he allegedly picked up a 14-year-old Dudley girl he'd met on the
social networking site MySpace. Mr. Sundquist allegedly took her to
his home, where they watched a Grinch movie in his bedroom and
had "unprotected" sex that continued after his mother walked in and
told them to "get decent," according to a police report.
The teen told police she met Mr. Sundquist, whose screen name
is "hopeless romantic," on MySpace about 18 months before the
alleged sexual encounter. She said she told him her real age online
and in person, and he warned her not to tell anyone about their
relationship.
When he brought her home to Dudley that same night, they again
had sex, this time in her grandmother's driveway, according to
court documents. Dudley police are investigating that allegation
and "charges are expected to be filed in Dudley District Court," the
report says.
Mr. Sundquist was also arraigned on charges of negligent driving,
failure to drive in the right lane and speeding after an accident in
Spencer on Lyford Road in the early morning of Dec. 29. In the days
after that crash he posted an obscenity-laced tirade on Facebook at
Officer David Sullivan, who cited him for the violations.
At his court appearance yesterday, he was released on $500 bail and
ordered to stay away from the 14-year-old alleged victim.
He is due back in court April 12.
